West Virginia University Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences is proud to be one of only 20 designated National Centers of Excellence in Women’s Health. As the flagship teaching, research, and clinical education institution, West Virginia University (WVU) is in a unique position to positively impact the health status of the women in West Virginia. WVU has the proximity to the rural underserved population of the state. It also has the leadership, a history of strong community partnerships and the visibility to make a state-wide effort. The need is critical; West Virginia ranks 48 among the 50 states and the District of Columbia in women’s health indicators. This national designation will allow West Virginia University Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences to create a statewide infrastructure that is community driven, and focuses on promoting positive lifestyle changes at the individual, community and statewide level.
The National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health designation is awarded by the US Department of Health and Human Service’s (DHHS) Office of Women’s Health. West Virginia University joins institutions such as Harvard University, University of California, Los Angeles; University of California, San Francisco, Boston University Medical Center; and the University of Illinois at Chicago, among others in receiving this honor. More than prestige, the designation reflects the quality and scope of care, research, and education we offer at WVU and gives us an opportunity to build on that foundation and enrich the lives of the women in West Virginia
Also, we have now formed a partnership with West Virginia Perinatal Partnership. To find out more about the partnership, click here. Here is another link having to do with the partnership. It is an article about why spacing between pregnancies is a healthy choice.
